Tutorials and videos on Ethernet basics and gigabit ethernet components (line cards and switches) are numerously found on the internet.
For a start, I included some Google ads, which should dynamically point at relevant resources.

Please contribute your references on good online sources for Ethernet tutorials, online seminars and whitepapers.
